Is PVH a Buy or a Sell? The Bull and Bear Case (2026)

Last updated July 2026

Short answer

Both cases are real, which is why the question is contested. The bull case for PVH Corp. (PVH) rests on The PVH+ Plan and the shift toward direct-to-consumer: PVH+ is the multi-year plan to run Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger as demand-driven global brands with regional commercial execution, and the clearest read on whether it is working is the channel split. The bear case rests on the China listing is the overhang that has no timetable: MOFCOM placed PVH on the List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 over Xinjiang cotton sourcing, no measures have been imposed as of the report filed in June 2026, and the potential remedies range from fines to bans on importing, exporting or investing in China, in a market supplying roughly 6% of revenue and roughly 20% of pre-impairment operating profit. Analysts covering it publish targets from $70.00 to $128.00 against a $82.47 price, so even the professionals disagree by 63% of their own average. We do not give a verdict. What follows is each case at full strength, so you can decide which set of assumptions you actually believe. Walnut is not an investment adviser.

PVH Corp designs, sources, markets and sells apparel, footwear and accessories under two owned brands, TOMMY HILFIGER and Calvin Klein, plus a small Heritage Brands business that licenses names such as Van Heusen and Nike for certain categories. In fiscal 2025, the year ended February 1, 2026, revenue was ~$8.95 billion: Tommy Hilfiger contributed ~$4.77 billion (~53%), Calvin Klein ~$3.96 billion (~44%) and Heritage Brands only ~$215 million. Distribution is split almost evenly between wholesale (~$4.41 billion) and company-operated retail (~$4.12 billion, of which ~$772 million is owned digital commerce), with ~$421 million of licensing royalties on top. The selling base is about 1,350 free-standing stores and about 1,450 shop-in-shop and concession locations, run by roughly 26,000 associates across more than 40 countries. Geography matters more than most US investors assume: EMEA produced ~$4.34 billion of fiscal 2025 revenue (~49%), the Americas ~$3.06 billion (~34%) and APAC ~$1.55 billion (~17%), with US domestic revenue of only ~$2.58 billion, so this is a European company that happens to be listed in New York. Segments were recut into EMEA, Americas, APAC and Licensing at the start of fiscal 2025 to pair the two global brands with regional execution. The investment picture is a valuation argument. About 46.1 million shares at ~$82 puts the market value near ~$3.8 billion against ~$9.0 billion of trailing revenue and management's own fiscal 2026 guidance of ~$11.80 to ~$12.10 in non-GAAP earnings per share. The market discounts it for reasons that are specific and documented rather than vague. PVH was placed on China's List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 and, as of the quarterly report filed in June 2026, remains on it with no measures yet imposed, while China accounts for roughly 6% of revenue and roughly 20% of pre-impairment operating profit. Tariffs on goods entering the US are guided to cost about ~$195 million of gross operating profit in fiscal 2026, or roughly ~$3.30 per share, partly offset by mitigation and an expected ~$100 million of refunds. EMEA, the largest region, had its full-year outlook cut in June 2026 on the prolonged effects of the Middle East conflict. Reported GAAP results add to the confusion: fiscal 2025 GAAP earnings were just ~$0.52 per share because of a ~$480 million pre-tax noncash impairment taken in the first quarter, against ~$11.40 on a non-GAAP basis. Set against all that, the company produced ~$680 million of operating cash flow in fiscal 2025 and retired about 9% of its diluted share count.

The bull case: what would have to be true for $128.00

The most optimistic published target on PVH is $128.00, +55.2% from the $82.47 price as of August 2026. Getting there needs the following to work close to its best case, not merely to avoid going wrong.

1. The PVH+ Plan and the shift toward direct-to-consumer

PVH+ is the multi-year plan to run Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger as demand-driven global brands with regional commercial execution, and the clearest read on whether it is working is the channel split. In the quarter ended May 3, 2026, direct-to-consumer revenue rose ~6% (~3% in constant currency), with owned stores up ~5% and owned digital commerce up ~11%, while wholesale was flat and fell ~6% in constant currency. Management attributes the DTC growth to concentrating on a handful of hero categories, denim and underwear at Calvin Klein and sweaters and outerwear at Tommy Hilfiger, and DTC carries higher gross margin than wholesale, so the mix shift helps profitability even when total revenue is flat.

2. Gross margin, tariff refunds and the Growth Driver 5 cost program

Gross margin fell to ~57.5% in fiscal 2025 from ~59.4% the year before, with roughly 80 basis points of that from tariffs and roughly 50 basis points from moving previously licensed categories into a lower-margin wholesale business. Margin held flat at ~58.6% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, and management guides to roughly 100 basis points of full-year improvement, built from about ~215 basis points of gross tariff drag offset by mitigation actions, lower product costs, favourable currency and about ~100 basis points from the expected ~$100 million of IEEPA tariff refunds. The Growth Driver 5 Actions, a restructuring program centralising processes and systems, supplies the SG&A savings that keep non-GAAP operating margin guided flat at ~8.8%.

3. A buyback that is large relative to the market value

PVH spent ~$578 million on repurchases in fiscal 2025, cutting diluted shares from ~51.1 million to ~46.4 million, roughly 9% of the count in a single year. Buying paused entirely in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, but the company says it expects to repurchase at least ~$300 million of stock for the full year, which is about 8% of the current ~$3.8 billion market value, and ~$1.212 billion of the board authorization remained available through July 2028 as of May 3, 2026. The dividend is deliberately token at ~$0.0375 per quarter, so essentially all shareholder return runs through the buyback.

4. Bringing licensed women's categories in-house

Licences granted to G-III Apparel Group for Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger women's products in the US and Canada expire on a staggered schedule running through 2026. PVH is directly operating a significant part of those businesses and re-licensing the rest, which adds revenue but at a cost: the transition contributed a ~1% net revenue increase and a ~50 basis point gross margin decline in fiscal 2025, with a similar ~50 basis point margin effect expected in fiscal 2026. Licensing revenue fell ~7% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 for the same reason, so the swap trades high-margin royalties for lower-margin wholesale sales that the company now controls.

The bear case: what would have to be true for $70.00

The most pessimistic published target is $70.00, -15.1% from the current price. That is not a floor and not a forecast; it is roughly what one analyst thinks PVH Corp. is worth if the risks below bite instead of the drivers above.

The China listing is the overhang that has no timetable: MOFCOM placed PVH on the List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 over Xinjiang cotton sourcing, no measures have been imposed as of the report filed in June 2026, and the potential remedies range from fines to bans on importing, exporting or investing in China, in a market supplying roughly 6% of revenue and roughly 20% of pre-impairment operating profit. EMEA, at about half of group revenue, was the reason full-year guidance came down in June 2026, with first-quarter EMEA revenue off ~5% in constant currency on the prolonged effects of the Middle East conflict. Tariff exposure is both large and unsettled: the outlook assumes a ~15% blended rate and a ~$195 million gross hit, and the company describes the offsetting ~$100 million of refunds as uncertain in amount and timing and dependent on processes outside its control, with the rate itself in flux after the Supreme Court ruling and the subsequent Section 122 executive order. The balance sheet leaves less room than the multiple suggests, with ~$2.28 billion of debt against ~$593 million of cash and a further ~$1.9 billion of operating lease liabilities on a ~$3.8 billion market capitalisation. Finally, after the June 3, 2026 guidance cut and a same-week analyst downgrade, several plaintiff firms including Schall, Bronstein Gewirtz & Grossman and Levi & Korsinsky publicly announced investigations into whether PVH misled investors; as of mid-August 2026 no securities class action complaint with a case number has been identified and PVH's own filings describe only ordinary-course litigation, and the chief financial officer post is currently held on an interim basis.

The bear case deserves the same attention as the bull case, and usually gets less. If you are holding PVH already, the question is not whether these risks exist but whether any of them has moved from possible to actually happening in the reported numbers.

Where analysts land on PVH

12 analysts cover PVH, with an average target of $91.83 (+11.3% against $82.47) and a split of 6 buy, 5 hold, 2 sell. Bear in mind sell-side ratings skew positive across the whole market, so that split is not a balanced vote. Snapshot for PVH as of August 2026, sourced from Yahoo Finance and may be delayed. Valuation figures move with price and earnings; verify the current numbers with your broker before deciding.

  • Q1 FY2026 Revenue (13 weeks ended May 3, 2026): ~$2.03 billion, up ~2% reported and down ~2% in constant currency
  • Q1 FY2026 EPS: ~$1.90 GAAP and ~$2.01 non-GAAP, above the ~$1.65 to ~$1.80 guided
  • Revenue (TTM): ~$9.0 billion
  • FY2026 Non-GAAP EPS Guidance: ~$11.80 to ~$12.10, versus ~$0.52 GAAP and ~$11.40 non-GAAP in FY2025
  • Gross Margin: ~58.6% in Q1 FY2026, flat year over year, after ~57.5% for FY2025
  • Net Debt: ~$1.7 billion (~$2.28 billion of debt less ~$593 million of cash), plus ~$1.9 billion of operating lease liabilities

At roughly ~$82 a share on about 46.1 million shares, the ~$3.8 billion market value equals about ~0.4x trailing revenue and under 7x the midpoint of the company's own FY2026 non-GAAP earnings guidance. Screens disagree wildly on this one because GAAP earnings collapsed to ~$0.52 per share in FY2025 on a ~$480 million pre-tax noncash impairment recorded in the first quarter of that year, while the non-GAAP figure was ~$11.40. Adding net debt, enterprise value of roughly ~$5.5 billion sits near ~7x the ~$790 million of operating profit implied by the ~8.8% non-GAAP margin guide, so the sub-1x sales multiple reflects thin margins and geopolitical risk rather than a business that cannot earn money.

How do you decide if PVH is a buy?

Rather than asking whether PVH is a buy in the abstract, it tends to help to answer four questions:

  • Thesis: do you believe the bull case above, and is it still true today?
  • Time horizon: a single stock can be volatile, so a longer horizon absorbs more of the swings.
  • Position sizing: a thesis can be right and the sizing still wrong; decide how much of your portfolio one name should be.
  • Overlap: check whether you already hold PVH indirectly through an index or sector ETF before adding more.

What would change your mind on PVH

Write the tripwires down before you need them. Deciding what would falsify your view is far harder once a position is moving against you.

  • Bull case breaks if: The PVH+ Plan and the shift toward direct-to-consumer stalls in the reported numbers rather than in the narrative around them.
  • Bear case breaks if: the China listing is the overhang that has no timetable: MOFCOM placed PVH on the List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 over Xinjiang cotton sourcing, no measures have been imposed as of the report filed in June 2026, and the potential remedies range from fines to bans on importing, exporting or investing in China, in a market supplying roughly 6% of revenue and roughly 20% of pre-impairment operating profit fails to materialise over several reporting periods while the drivers keep compounding.
  • Neither matters if: the position has grown large enough that being wrong would damage the whole portfolio. Sizing overrides the argument.

FAQ

Is PVH a good stock to buy right now?

+

That depends on which case you find more convincing, and both are on this page. The bull case rests on The PVH+ Plan and the shift toward direct-to-consumer, with q1 fy2026 revenue (13 weeks ended may 3, 2026) at ~$2.03 billion, up ~2% reported and down ~2% in constant currency. Analysts covering it are spread from $70.00 to $128.00, which is itself a signal that this is genuinely contested. If you believe the thesis, the real questions become sizing and overlap rather than timing. Walnut is not an investment adviser and this is not a recommendation.

Should I sell PVH?

+

Nobody can answer that for you, and the honest version of the question is narrower: has anything changed in the reason you bought it? The bear case on this page is the place to check. If that risk is what you were worried about and it is now playing out, that is a real signal. If the price simply fell while the thesis held, that is a different situation entirely. The most pessimistic published target is $70.00, -15.1% from the $82.47 price, which is one analyst's downside case rather than a floor. Walnut is not an investment adviser.

What does PVH Corp. do?

+

Owns Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, designing and selling apparel, footwear and accessories worldwide, alongside a smaller Heritage Brands business.

What would have to change for PVH to stop being worth holding?

+

Decide that in advance, because it is far harder to think clearly once a position is moving against you. The concrete tripwires here: the driver behind the bull case (The PVH+ Plan and the shift toward direct-to-consumer) stalling in the reported numbers rather than in the narrative, the risk above (the China listing is the overhang that has no timetable: MOFCOM placed PVH on the List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 over Xinjiang cotton sourcing, no measures have been imposed as of the report filed in June 2026, and the potential remedies range from fines to bans on importing, exporting or investing in China, in a market supplying roughly 6% of revenue and roughly 20% of pre-impairment operating profit) turning from a possibility into a reported fact, or the position growing large enough that a bad outcome would matter to your whole portfolio regardless of who is right.

What brands does PVH Corp actually own?

+

PVH owns two brands outright, TOMMY HILFIGER and Calvin Klein, and they produced over 95% of fiscal 2025 revenue. The rest is the Heritage Brands business, roughly ~$215 million, where PVH licenses names such as Van Heusen and Nike from third parties for particular categories. The old Heritage portfolio has largely been sold off: the Van Heusen and related men's business went in 2021 and the Warner's, Olga and True&Co intimates business was sold in November 2023, which is why PVH today is essentially a two-brand company.

Is PVH still on China's unreliable entity list?

+

Yes. MOFCOM opened its investigation in September 2024, issued a preliminary finding in January 2025 that PVH had violated normal market trading principles, and placed the company on the List of Unreliable Entities in February 2025 over its handling of Xinjiang cotton sourcing. In the quarterly report filed on June 5, 2026, PVH stated that it remains on the list, that it does not know if or when MOFCOM will implement any measures, and that no measures have been imposed to date. Potential measures under the UEL Provisions include fines, restrictions on import, export or investment activity in China, and entry or work-permit restrictions on personnel, so the overhang is unresolved rather than cleared.

Why does PVH trade at less than half a times sales?

+

Three things compress the multiple at once. Operating margin is thin, at ~8.8% on a non-GAAP basis and only ~2.6% on a GAAP basis in fiscal 2025 after a ~$480 million impairment. Roughly half of revenue comes from EMEA, where the outlook was cut in June 2026, and about 6% of revenue plus about 20% of pre-impairment operating profit comes from a China business under an unresolved government listing. Layer on ~$1.7 billion of net debt and ~$1.9 billion of lease liabilities against a ~$3.8 billion market value and the equity is a fairly small slice of a leveraged, geopolitically exposed enterprise, which is what the ~0.4x sales multiple is expressing.
