NRDBY vs SEB: Which Is the Better Buy in 2026?
Last updated October 2026
Short answer
NRDBY is the larger of the two ($59.29B market cap): the incumbent the market prices for continued execution (9.13x forward earnings, beta 0.68). SEB is the smaller challenger ($3.76B): more room to run, but more to prove. The real question is which set of drivers you believe, and whether owning one (or both) leaves you over-concentrated.
NRDBY vs SEB: the tie-breaker metrics
Same yardstick, side by side (as of October 2026). Valuation lined up like this is most meaningful for two names in the same corner of the market, which these are. Figures are approximate; verify before investing.
| Metric | NRDBY | SEB | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Market cap | $59.29B | $3.76B | Size. The larger name is the incumbent; the smaller has more room to grow and more to prove. |
| Trailing P/E | 10.85 | 5.97 | Valuation on the last 12 months. A big drop from trailing to forward means the market expects earnings to jump, so more growth is already in the price. |
| Beta | 0.68 | 0.21 | Volatility vs the market. Above 1 swings harder than the index; below 1 is steadier. Higher beta means bigger drawdowns to hold through. |
| Price vs 52-week range | 22% of range | 27% of range | Where today's price sits between the 52-week low and high. Near the high is momentum with less margin of safety; near the low is out of favor or a discount, depending on why. |
| Price / book | 1.69 | 0.68 | How much you pay over book value. Very high can signal an asset-light, high-return business or a rich price. |
Before you buy: how NRDBY and SEB affect your concentration
The metrics above tell you which is the marginally better business. The bigger risk for most people is not picking the slightly worse stock, it is over-concentrating. NRDBY and SEB share themes, so owning both, or adding either to what you already hold, can quietly push a large share of your portfolio into one bet.
This is the part a generic comparison page cannot answer, because it depends on what you own. Connect your brokerage and Walnut shows your real, combined NRDBY and SEB exposure, flags overlap with your existing positions, and tells you if adding one would tip you past a concentration you are comfortable with, read-only by default, with your login staying at your broker. What does Nordea Bank (NRDBY) do?
Nordea Bank Abp is the largest financial services group in the Nordic region, headquartered in Helsinki and serving households, small businesses, large corporates and institutions across Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. It runs four business areas: Personal Banking (mortgages, deposits, cards and savings for roughly 9 million household customers), Business Banking, Large Corporates and Institutions, and Asset and Wealth Management, which runs funds, private banking and life and pension products. Its home listing trades in Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen. NRDBY is a sponsored Level 1 ADR trading over the counter in the US, and the ratio is one ADR to one ordinary share, so the ADR price is simply the euro share price converted at the prevailing EUR/USD rate, and dividends are paid in US dollars after conversion.
What does Seaboard (SEB) do?
Seaboard reports six segments, and the 10-Q for the quarter ended July 4, 2026 names them as Pork, Commodity Trading and Milling (CT&M), Marine, Liquid Fuels, Power and Turkey, with a sugar and alcohol operation in Argentina parked in All Other and Corporate. CT&M is the revenue giant at ~$5.17 billion of fiscal 2025 sales, sourcing grains and oilseeds through ten trading offices and milling flour, feed and maize meal at 14 sites across ten countries. Pork contributed ~$2.06 billion from a single Oklahoma plant with double-shift capacity for about six million hogs a year, fed by hog production able to raise roughly eight million head. Marine added ~$1.61 billion, sailing 14 owned cargo vessels plus 11 chartered ones between the U.S. and 27 countries in the Caribbean and Central and South America. Liquid Fuels (~$605 million) runs 78 million gallons of biodiesel capacity and an 85-million-gallon renewable diesel plant in Kansas. Power (~$232 million) is two generating barges in Santo Domingo rated at 108 and 150 megawatts. Turkey books no revenue at all, being Seaboard's 52.5% non-controlling stake in Butterball, carried on the equity method. Roughly 14,000 people work across the group.
NRDBY vs SEB: how do they differ?
Both fit overlapping themes, but they are not interchangeable. The useful comparison is which set of drivers and risks you want exposure to.
- NRDBY drivers: Net interest income holding up as rates ease; Fee income and savings growth.
- SEB drivers: Liquid Fuels flipped from the biggest drag to the biggest swing; Butterball is carrying a visible share of earnings.
Which fits which kind of investor
A faster-growing, richer-valued name usually swings harder, so it suits a longer horizon and a higher tolerance for volatility; a steadier, more cash-generative business suits a more conservative or income-minded investor. The honest test is which set of risks you could hold through a drawdown: The biggest swing factor is interest rates. For SEB, litigation is the oldest of the exposures.
NRDBY or SEB: which should you pick?
Growth-minded investors who believe the theme has years to run tend to accept the richer multiple for more upside; value-minded investors lean toward the cheaper forward earnings and steadier profile. Pick NRDBY if you believe its drivers more; SEB if you believe its. Many investors hold both, but since they share themes, that is a concentrated bet, not diversification. Decide deliberately and check overlap. For the full detail, see the NRDBY and SEB guides.
NRDBY vs SEB: the full fundamentals
NRDBY. NRDBY is a 1:1 ADR, so per-ADR figures equal per-share figures converted at EUR/USD. At about $19 per ADR, the market values Nordea near ~$65 billion, about 12 times trailing earnings of roughly EUR 1.38 per share and about 1.7 times book value. That premium to book, versus many eurozone banks below 1x, reflects a mid-teens return on equity and steady capital returns. The 2025 dividend was EUR 0.96 per share, and with a new mid-year dividend plus buybacks, total cash return has run near 7% to 8% of market value. Figures are approximate and move with the euro and the share price.
SEB. A single-digit P/E here is not describing a steady earnings stream. Trailing profit was helped by a net tax benefit following the 2025 valuation allowance release, by mark-to-market gains on the Corporate securities book, and by an unusually strong stretch at Butterball and Liquid Fuels, none of which management describes as repeatable. The discount to book value is the more durable observation, and it widened to roughly 0.69 times between August and mid-October 2026 as the shares fell about 7% in a month; and it has persisted for years alongside a public float of roughly 248,000 shares that makes any multiple a thinly-traded one. The next 10-Q, for the quarter ending in early October, is expected around October 27, 2026, and no Wall Street consensus exists to measure it against.
Headline figures (approximate, October 2026): NRDBY shows total income (ttm) ~EUR 12 billion (~$14 billion), net profit (ttm) ~EUR 4.8 billion (~$5.6 billion), market cap ~$65 billion, p/e (trailing) ~12x; SEB shows revenue (ttm) ~$10.27 billion for the twelve months to July 4, 2026, against $9.75 billion in fiscal 2025, $9.10 billion in 2024 and $9.56 billion in 2023. First-half 2026 sales of $5.32 billion were up $526 million year over year, with Liquid Fuels supplying $300 million of that increase on environmental credit and fuel sales, and CT&M $188 million on higher commodity volumes., earnings and eps (ttm) ~$634 million of net earnings attributable to Seaboard, or ~$661.87 per share, versus $496 million ($514.46) in fiscal 2025, $88 million ($90.62) in 2024 and $226 million ($202.21) in 2023. Operating income across the same twelve months was only ~$345 million. The remainder came from ~$179 million of income from affiliates, ~$155 million of other income, and an income tax line that netted to a benefit rather than an expense., margins (ttm) ~8.1% gross, ~3.4% operating and ~6.2% net, the net figure sitting above the operating one because of affiliate income, securities gains and the tax benefit. Revenue in the latest quarter grew ~17.8% year over year., segment mix (fiscal 2025) CT&M produced $5.17 billion of the $9.75 billion in external sales but just $143 million of the $239 million in operating income. Marine contributed $165 million of operating income on $1.61 billion of sales, Pork $67 million on $2.06 billion, Power $46 million on $232 million, and Liquid Fuels lost $127 million on $605 million. Adding $138 million of affiliate income, total operating income and income from affiliates came to $377 million..
The bottom line: NRDBY vs SEB
NRDBY and SEB are related but distinct: same themes, different businesses and risks. Neither wins in the abstract; the right pick is whichever thesis you actually believe, sized so you are not over-concentrated in one theme. Walnut can show your combined NRDBY and SEB exposure against your real portfolio. It is not an investment adviser.

FAQ
What is the difference between NRDBY and SEB?
+
Nordea Bank Abp is the largest financial services group in the Nordic region, headquartered in Helsinki and serving households, small businesses, large corporates and institutions across Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. They show up together because they share investment themes, but they are different businesses, so the better fit depends on which thesis you are expressing.
Is NRDBY or SEB the better stock?
+
Neither is universally better. NRDBY is the larger incumbent; SEB is the smaller challenger. Walnut is informational, not investment advice. Compare what each does, the tie-breaker metrics above, and the risks, then decide which fits your thesis and what you already own.
Which is cheaper, NRDBY or SEB?
+
A lower multiple is not automatically the better buy: a richer valuation can be justified by faster growth, and a lower one can reflect real risk. Weigh the multiple against how fast each business is compounding.
Should you own both NRDBY and SEB?
+
Because they share themes, owning both concentrates you in that theme. That can be intentional (a focused bet) or accidental (less diversification than it looks). Walnut can show your combined exposure across both, and whether adding either over-concentrates you, before you buy.
What are the risks of NRDBY vs SEB?
+
NRDBY: The biggest swing factor is interest rates. If European and Nordic central banks cut further than markets expect, deposit margins compress and net interest income, about two thirds of revenue, could decline rather than hold flat. Credit risk is currently benign at ~7 basis points of loan losses, but Nordea has large exposure to Nordic residential mortgages and commercial real estate, and Sweden's property sector in particular was stressed by the 2023 rate shock; a renewed downturn would raise provisions from historically low levels. The bank has a history of compliance problems, including anti-money-laundering fines tied to its former Baltic and Danish operations, and regulators continue to scrutinise financial crime controls. Fee income is sensitive to equity markets, and the net fair value line is volatile, as the ~19% drop in Q3 2026 showed. Currency is a specific risk for NRDBY: the ADR is priced and pays dividends in dollars, so a weaker euro, Swedish krona or Norwegian krone lowers the dollar value even if the business performs. The ADR trades over the counter with thinner liquidity and wider spreads than the Helsinki listing, carries ADR custody fees, and dividends face Finnish withholding tax. Finally, political pressure for bank windfall taxes has appeared in several Nordic countries. SEB: Litigation is the oldest of the exposures. In re Pork Antitrust Litigation, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota on June 28, 2018 against Seaboard Foods and other processors, alleges output coordination from January 2009 onward, facilitated by non-public data exchanged through Agri Stats. Classes were certified on March 3, 2023 and the court denied the defendants' summary judgment motion on March 31, 2025. Seaboard has settled with the direct purchaser class (June 2023), the two indirect purchaser classes (June 2024), Alaska, Puerto Rico and New Mexico, but it continues to litigate against opt-out direct action plaintiffs whose cases await remand to the courts where they were filed, and it states it cannot estimate reasonably possible loss beyond amounts already accrued. Operational concentration is stark. One Oklahoma plant carries the entire Pork segment, and substantially all of its hourly workforce sat under a collective bargaining agreement expiring in July 2026. Management said it is uncertain whether Pork will be profitable for the remainder of the year. CT&M runs mills in Ghana, Zambia, Nigeria, Mozambique, the Republic of the Congo and other markets where currency moves, unreliable power and political instability are live variables, while the sugar and alcohol business sits in Argentina. A risk factor added in the second quarter for the Iran conflict that began in February 2026 names higher fuel prices, higher shipping costs and firmer grain prices as effects already felt. The financial texture deserves attention too. Operating cash flow for the first half of 2026 was negative $30 million against positive $61 million a year earlier, as inventories absorbed $285 million. Lines of credit stood at $623 million at a weighted average 5.24%, on top of a $948 million term loan due 2033 at 5.35%. And with roughly 248,000 shares outside family control and no analyst coverage on Yahoo Finance, ordinary order flow moves the quote further than the underlying business does in any given week.
