CSL Ltd. (CSLLY) Stock Price & How to Invest
Last updated October 2026
Short answer
CSLLY is the US over-the-counter ADR of CSL Limited, the Australian plasma-therapies, flu-vaccine and kidney-medicine group, and owning it is a bet that the core plasma business can recover after a brutal 2025 to 2026 reset. Four ADRs represent one ASX share, so the ADR price tracks CSL in Sydney converted into US dollars.

What does CSL Ltd. (CSLLY) do?
CSL Limited is one of the world's largest biotechnology companies and is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, with US investors able to hold it through the CSLLY American Depositary Receipt. The group runs three businesses. CSL Behring, the largest at roughly US$11.4 billion of FY26 revenue, collects blood plasma through one of the biggest donor-center networks in the world and fractionates it into therapies such as immunoglobulins (used for immune deficiencies and neurological conditions), albumin, haemophilia treatments and specialty products like the gene therapy HEMGENIX and the hereditary angioedema drug ANDEMBRY. CSL Seqirus, at about US$2.0 billion, is one of the largest influenza vaccine makers globally, with egg-based, cell-based and adjuvanted vaccines and a pandemic-preparedness role for several governments. CSL Vifor, at about US$2.4 billion, sells iron-deficiency and kidney-disease medicines and came with the roughly US$11.7 billion acquisition of Vifor Pharma in 2022. CSL reports in US dollars even though its home listing is in Australian dollars.
The investment picture changed sharply over the last 18 months. CSL shares fell from above A$270 in August 2025 to a low near A$90 in mid 2026, the worst stretch in the company's modern history. The slide came in stages: an August 2025 result that cut growth expectations and announced a Seqirus demerger, the shelving of that demerger in October 2025 as US vaccination rates fell, the abrupt February 2026 departure of CEO Paul McKenzie (the board said the company needed broader skills), and a May 2026 review by interim CEO Gordon Naylor that downgraded guidance and flagged multibillion dollar writedowns. The FY26 result in August 2026 confirmed a statutory loss of about US$2.6 billion after roughly US$7.1 billion of pre-tax impairments, mostly against Vifor, but underlying profit held up better than feared and FY27 guidance of about 5% underlying NPAT growth came in above consensus. The shares jumped around 17% on the day and have since traded near A$185, roughly double the low but still about a third below the 2025 level. The open questions are how fast immunoglobulin demand and plasma margins recover, how steep the Vifor decline becomes, and who the board picks as permanent CEO.
What's driving CSL Ltd. (CSLLY)?
1. Immunoglobulin recovery at CSL Behring
Immunoglobulin is CSL's single most important product line, at about US$6.2 billion of FY26 sales, and it was flat for the year as CSL worked down excess US channel inventory and absorbed Medicare Part D redesign effects and some prior-year tender losses. Management guided CSL Behring to mid-single-digit revenue growth in FY27, led by immunoglobulin, and analysts singled this out as the main reason the August result was received well. Underlying demand for Ig has historically grown in the high single digits as diagnosis of immune deficiencies and use in conditions like CIDP expand. If that underlying growth reasserts itself once inventory normalises, Behring's revenue and margin can rebuild without any heroic assumptions. If it does not, the core of the investment case weakens.
2. Plasma cost and margin rebuild
Plasma collection costs spiked during and after the pandemic, and CSL has spent several years trying to bring cost per litre down through new collection technology (the Rika plasmapheresis device), donor-center efficiencies and yield improvements. The FY26 restructuring, which cost about US$799 million and has started to deliver savings of roughly US$176 million, is aimed partly at this. Behring's gross margin is the single variable that most moves CSL's earnings, so evidence of margin expansion in the half-year results matters more than headline revenue. Plans to expand US plasma manufacturing also reduce exposure to tariff and supply-chain risk on product crossing borders.
3. Specialty products and the pipeline
HEMGENIX, the haemophilia B gene therapy, grew sales about 25% in FY26, and the hereditary angioedema treatment ANDEMBRY (garadacimab) is in launch, both of which management highlighted as building momentum. These products help offset the decline of the older recombinant factor VIII portfolio and matter because they are less exposed to plasma cost. CSL has also signed a strategic partnership with VarmX on a novel coagulation therapy. The board has said it wants a CEO who can broaden pipeline activity, so pipeline investment and business development could become a bigger part of the story under new leadership.
4. Vifor and Seqirus as drags to be managed
Vifor grew about 3% in FY26, but FY27 guidance calls for revenue to fall roughly 25% as US generics of its iron-deficiency injection take share and the TDAPA add-on payment period for VELPHORO ends. Most of the FY26 impairments were taken against Vifor goodwill and product value, so the balance sheet now reflects a smaller business. Seqirus is guided to low-single-digit growth as US flu vaccination rates soften under a more sceptical federal vaccine policy environment. With the demerger shelved, both units are now about cash generation and cost control rather than growth, and the faster their decline is absorbed, the more clearly Behring's recovery shows through.
What are the risks to CSL Ltd. (CSLLY)?
The most immediate risk is that immunoglobulin demand stays soft or that competitors such as Grifols, Takeda and Octapharma price aggressively, which would undercut the FY27 guidance the recent rebound is built on. US policy is a second risk: Medicare drug pricing changes, potential pharmaceutical tariffs, and a federal stance that has lowered flu vaccination rates all hit CSL directly, since the US is its largest market. Execution risk is elevated because the company is mid-restructuring with an interim CEO, and a permanent leader may reset strategy, guidance or capital allocation again. China cost-containment measures have already cut albumin sales about 17%, and further volume-based procurement could do more damage. Finally, CSLLY holders carry Australian dollar to US dollar currency exposure on the share price and trade in a thinner OTC market with wider spreads than the ASX line.
Is CSLLY a buy or a sell?
We give no verdict on CSL Ltd.. Both cases are real, which is why the question is contested at all, so here is the strongest version of each.
The case for buying. Immunoglobulin recovery at CSL Behring. Immunoglobulin is CSL's single most important product line, at about US$6.2 billion of FY26 sales, and it was flat for the year as CSL worked down excess US channel inventory and absorbed Medicare Part D redesign effects and some prior-year tender losses.
The case against. The most immediate risk is that immunoglobulin demand stays soft or that competitors such as Grifols, Takeda and Octapharma price aggressively, which would undercut the FY27 guidance the recent rebound is built on.

How is CSL Ltd. (CSLLY) valued? (approximate, October 2026)
A simple financial snapshot. These are approximations and refresh quarterly; for current figures see CSL Ltd.'s investor relations page or your broker.
- Revenue (FY26, year to June 2026): ~US$15.8 billion (down ~1%)
- Underlying NPATA (FY26): ~US$3.1 billion (down ~2%)
- Statutory result (FY26): ~US$2.6 billion loss after ~US$7.1 billion pre-tax impairments
- FY27 guidance: ~5% underlying NPAT growth, revenue broadly flat at constant currency
- ASX price / market value: ~A$185 per share (~US$129), market value ~A$89 billion (~US$62 billion)
- Valuation on underlying earnings: ~20x FY26 NPATA, ~19x on FY27 guidance; dividend yield ~2.3%
CSL reports in US dollars, which makes its earnings directly comparable to the CSLLY price once the four-ADRs-per-share ratio is applied: one ASX share at about A$185 is roughly US$129, or about US$32 per ADR. At around 20 times underlying earnings, CSL trades well below the 30 to 40 times multiple it commanded for most of the last decade, which reflects both slower expected growth and lower confidence after the guidance cuts. FY26 dividends totalled roughly US$2.92 per share (an interim of about US$1.30 and a final of US$1.62), and the company is continuing an on-market buyback of about US$1.1 billion in FY27. The statutory loss is driven by non-cash impairments and restructuring charges, while operating cash flow held near US$3.5 billion.
Who competes with CSL Ltd. (CSLLY)?
Plasma-derived therapies
Grifols (Spain), Takeda (Japan, through the former Shire/Baxalta plasma business), Octapharma (a private Swiss company) and Kedrion are CSL Behring's direct rivals in immunoglobulin, albumin and specialty plasma products. The plasma industry is concentrated because collection networks and fractionation plants take years and billions of dollars to build, and CSL is the largest player by revenue and collection footprint. Competition shows up in Ig pricing, government and hospital tenders, and the cost of attracting plasma donors in the US, where most of the world's source plasma is collected. Argenx's VYVGART and other FcRn blockers are also an emerging non-plasma competitor in some neurological uses of immunoglobulin.
Influenza and pandemic vaccines
Sanofi is the largest seasonal flu vaccine maker and Seqirus's main rival, with GSK and AstraZeneca (nasal FluMist) also significant. Moderna and Pfizer are developing mRNA flu and combination COVID-flu vaccines that could take share in the future if they show an advantage. Seqirus differentiates through cell-based manufacturing, adjuvanted vaccines for older adults and government pandemic-preparedness contracts. The whole category is exposed to vaccination rates, which have fallen in the US, and to annual strain-selection and production timing.
Iron deficiency and nephrology
Vifor competes with Pharmacosmos (Monoferric/Monofer), generic iron-sucrose and ferric carboxymaltose makers who entered the US market in late 2025, and kidney-care companies selling phosphate binders and anaemia treatments. Generic entry is the main reason Vifor revenue is guided to fall about 25% in FY27. Vifor's dialysis-channel business is also shaped by large US dialysis providers such as DaVita and Fresenius, whose purchasing decisions and Medicare reimbursement rules affect demand.

FAQ
What is CSLLY?
+
CSLLY is the ticker for CSL Limited's sponsored Level 1 American Depositary Receipt, which trades over the counter in the United States. CSL itself is headquartered in Melbourne and its primary listing is on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code CSL. The ADR lets US investors hold an economic interest in CSL shares in US dollars through an ordinary US brokerage account, without opening an Australian account. The depositary bank, Bank of New York Mellon, holds the underlying ordinary shares and issues ADRs against them. Because CSLLY is OTC rather than exchange-listed, trading volume is far lower than on the ASX and bid-ask spreads can be wider.
How does currency affect CSLLY returns?
+
CSL earns most of its revenue in US dollars and reports in US dollars, but its shares are priced in Australian dollars on the ASX. CSLLY's US dollar price is essentially the ASX price converted at the current AUD/USD exchange rate and divided by four. If the Australian dollar strengthens against the US dollar, CSLLY rises even if the ASX price is unchanged, and the reverse is also true. Over the past year AUD/USD has moved between roughly 0.65 and 0.72, which is enough to add or subtract several percentage points from returns. The underlying business's earnings are relatively insulated because they are largely dollar based, but the share price translation still adds currency movement.
Does CSLLY pay a dividend, and is there Australian withholding tax?
+
Yes. CSL pays an interim and a final dividend each year, declared in US dollars per ordinary share. For FY26 those were roughly US$1.30 and US$1.62, and each CSLLY ADR receives one quarter of the per-share amount, minus depositary fees. Because most of CSL's profit is earned offshore, its dividends have typically been largely unfranked. Unfranked Australian dividends paid to US residents are generally subject to Australian withholding tax, commonly 15% under the US-Australia tax treaty, although portions designated as conduit foreign income can be exempt. US holders may be able to claim a foreign tax credit. The exact treatment varies by year and by holder, so a tax professional is the right source for specifics.
What happened with the Seqirus demerger?
+
In August 2025 CSL announced it intended to spin off CSL Seqirus, its influenza vaccine business, as a separate ASX-listed company before the end of FY26. The aim was to let CSL focus on plasma and specialty medicines while giving Seqirus its own capital structure. By late October 2025 the company had shelved the plan, citing heightened volatility in the US vaccine market and an expected fall in vaccination rates, which made it a poor time to list a vaccine company. Seqirus remains part of CSL, generated about US$2.0 billion of FY26 revenue, and is guided to low-single-digit growth in FY27. A future separation remains possible but has not been rescheduled.
Who runs CSL now?
+
Gordon Naylor, a long-serving CSL executive and former president of CSL Seqirus, became interim Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director on 11 February 2026, replacing Paul McKenzie, who had led the company since 2023. Chair Brian McNamee, a former long-time CSL CEO himself, said the board concluded the company needed new and broader skills to improve commercial performance and broaden pipeline activity. The board has described the global search for a permanent CEO as well advanced, and Naylor is expected to return to the board after a handover. A new leader could change capital allocation, pipeline priorities or Vifor's future, so the appointment is a key upcoming event.
What is the difference between owning CSLLY and owning CSL on the ASX?
+
Economically they represent the same company: four CSLLY ADRs equal one ASX share, and arbitrage keeps the prices closely aligned after currency conversion. The differences are practical. CSLLY trades during US hours in US dollars through any US broker, while the ASX line trades during Australian hours in Australian dollars and requires a broker with ASX access. Liquidity is much deeper on the ASX, so CSLLY can show wider spreads and occasional stale prices. ADR holders pay small depositary fees, usually deducted from dividends, and generally vote through the depositary rather than directly. Some US brokers do not support fractional shares or recurring purchases in OTC securities, which can matter for small, regular investments.
