What does Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc. (RBGLY) do?

Reckitt Benckiser Group plc sells everyday health and cleaning products in close to every country. It now reports two businesses. Core Reckitt holds four categories: Self Care (Mucinex, Nurofen, Strepsils, Gaviscon), Germ Protection (Dettol and Lysol), Household Care (Finish dishwasher products, Vanish stain removers and Harpic toilet cleaners) and Intimate Wellness (Durex). Mead Johnson Nutrition, which sells Enfamil and Nutramigen infant formula, sits outside the core and is treated as non-core while the company considers all options for it. In 2025 group net revenue was ~£14.2 billion, and like-for-like growth excluding Essential Home was 5.0%. In the March 2026 quarter, Core Reckitt's ~£2.6 billion of net revenue split as ~£1.09 billion from emerging markets, ~£873 million from Europe and ~£638 million from North America, and Mead Johnson added ~£531 million.

The modern company dates from the 1999 merger of Britain's Reckitt & Colman with Benckiser of the Netherlands. It grew through acquisitions: Boots Healthcare International in 2006 (Nurofen, Strepsils), Adams Respiratory in 2008 (Mucinex), SSL International in 2010 (Durex) and Mead Johnson in 2017 for ~$17.9 billion including debt. That last deal turned out badly, with write-downs and now product-liability suits over premature-infant formula. The group shortened its trading name to Reckitt in 2021. In 2024 it said it would exit Essential Home, and the sale of Air Wick, Cillit Bang and other home brands to Advent International for ~£2.2 billion completed on December 31, 2025, with Reckitt keeping a 30% stake in the buyer.

Reckitt is headquartered in Slough, England, and its shares trade on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker RKT as a FTSE 100 member. It has no controlling shareholder. Kris Licht has been chief executive since late 2023 and Shannon Eisenhardt is chief financial officer. RBGLY is a sponsored ADR quoted in US dollars on the OTC Pink tier. Reckitt's market value against the RBGLY price works out to roughly five ADRs per London ordinary share. Dividends are declared in pence and paid to ADR holders in dollars after currency conversion and depositary fees; the UK does not withhold tax on dividends.

The investment picture is a company trying to prove a simpler model. Core Reckitt grew 5.2% like-for-like in 2025, above its 4% to 5% target, with emerging markets up 14.6%. Momentum then faded: Core growth was 1.3% in the March 2026 quarter after a weak cold and flu season, and 2.7% for the first half, although the June quarter improved to 4.2%. Adjusted operating margin was 24.9% for 2025, and management expects the 2026 margin to be weighted to the second half. Shareholder returns are large: a £1.6 billion special dividend paid in February 2026 from the Essential Home proceeds, a £1 billion buyback that began in July 2025, a further £500 million buyback announced in July 2026, and an ordinary dividend that rose 5% for 2025 to 212.2p.

What's driving Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc. (RBGLY)?

1. Emerging markets as the growth engine

Emerging markets are now Core Reckitt's largest region, at ~£1.09 billion of net revenue in the March 2026 quarter, and they grew 14.6% like-for-like in 2025 with double-digit gains in China and India, and also in Indonesia and Colombia. Growth slowed to 7.6% in the March 2026 quarter, and Reckitt said sanctions changes in Russia cut about 2 percentage points from emerging-market growth, while war in the Middle East left that region flat. Management's medium-term ambition is sustainable high-single-digit growth in emerging markets. Durex, Dettol and the Self Care brands are the main drivers there, and the region's pace largely decides whether the group hits its 4% to 5% target.

2. Fixing Europe and North America

Developed markets are where Reckitt has lagged. Europe fell 1.4% like-for-like in 2025 and 4.2% in the March 2026 quarter, and North America was roughly flat for 2025 before improving to 1.8% growth in the second half. Self Care is seasonal in both regions, so a mild cold and flu season can wipe out a quarter, as happened in early 2026. Reckitt is leaning on launches such as Mucinex 12hr Cold and Fever in North America, premium Finish formats and Dettol Activ Botany. A North America investor event on November 19, 2026 should show what management plans for the region.

3. Germ Protection strength, Household Care weakness

The four core categories are moving in different directions. Germ Protection, led by Dettol and Lysol, grew 9.5% like-for-like in the March 2026 quarter to ~£854 million. Household Care fell 7.6% to ~£524 million, Self Care was flat at ~£831 million and Intimate Wellness grew 0.3% to ~£389 million. Household Care faces private-label competition and tight consumer budgets in Europe, while Self Care depends on illness seasons. A recovery in Self Care and a smaller drag from Household Care would do most of the work in getting back to 4% to 5% growth.

4. The Mead Johnson decision

Mead Johnson Nutrition is the largest open question. It grew 3.8% like-for-like in 2025 and 2.0% in the first half of 2026, including 7.2% in the June quarter, and management expects low-single-digit growth for 2026. Reckitt continues to consider all strategic options for it, and in April 2026 the French newsletter La Lettre reported that Danone was weighing a bid, which neither company has confirmed. A sale or separation would leave a smaller, pure consumer health and hygiene group, but the price achievable is tied to the outcome of the necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) lawsuits, which make any buyer cautious.

5. Margins and Fuel for Growth

The Fuel for Growth cost program brought fixed costs down to 19.4% of net revenue in 2025, 150 basis points lower than the year before, and Reckitt aims to go below 19% by the end of 2027. Those savings are meant to offset the stranded costs left behind by the Essential Home sale. Core Reckitt's first-half 2026 adjusted operating margin was 24.8%, while the group figure including Mead Johnson was 23.6%, down 100 basis points. Reckitt has also estimated a ~£130 million to £150 million gross input-cost hit if oil stays at $110 a barrel for the rest of 2026, so the second-half margin recovery it is guiding to depends partly on commodity prices.

6. Cash returns and the balance sheet

Net debt was ~£6.56 billion at the end of 2025, or 1.6x adjusted EBITDA, down from 2.0x. Free cash flow fell 23.4% to ~£1.71 billion in 2025 because of restructuring costs and tax on disposals. Reckitt returned ~£2.3 billion to shareholders in respect of 2025 and is still buying back shares, which helps adjusted earnings per share even as reported revenue shrinks after the Essential Home sale. First-half 2026 adjusted diluted EPS fell 9.7% to 152.1p, mainly because Essential Home's profits are gone. The interim dividend still rose 5%, which signals that the board sees the payout as covered.

What are the risks to Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc. (RBGLY)?

Litigation is the risk that sets Reckitt apart from its peers. Mead Johnson and Abbott face more than 2,000 lawsuits in the US alleging that formula for premature babies is linked to necrotizing enterocolitis, a serious bowel disease. Mead Johnson has recently won: a federal bellwether jury found for it, a St. Louis jury cleared it in July 2026, and an Illinois appeals court threw out a $60 million verdict from March 2024 and sent the case back for retrial. Abbott has fared worse, including a $495 million verdict upheld on appeal in Missouri, which shows how large single awards can be. Reckitt denies that its products cause NEC, but more trials are ahead and a run of losses could cost far more than the reserves investors assume. Operating risks are also real. Core growth slowed to 1.3% in the March 2026 quarter, Europe is shrinking, Household Care fell 7.6%, and the cold and flu season can swing Self Care in any quarter. Russia sanctions changes and the Middle East conflict hit emerging markets in early 2026, and the transfer of the Russian business is still in progress. Higher oil prices could add ~£130 million to £150 million to input costs, and a Mead Johnson sale may fetch less than hoped while the lawsuits remain open. For US holders, RBGLY's dollar price moves with sterling, dividends are reduced by depositary fees, and OTC volume can be lighter than the London line.

What is the Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc. (RBGLY) forecast?

4 analysts publish price targets on RBGLY, averaging $16.20 against a $13.71 price as of October 2026, or +18.2%. The published targets run from $14.37 to $18.66, a narrow spread, and the ratings split 2 buy, 2 hold, 0 sell. A price target is what an analyst published on a date, not a prediction, and sell-side ratings skew positive across the whole market.

Is RBGLY a buy or a sell?

We give no verdict on Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc.. Both cases are real, which is why the question is contested at all, so here is the strongest version of each.

The case for buying. Emerging markets as the growth engine. Emerging markets are now Core Reckitt's largest region, at ~£1.09 billion of net revenue in the March 2026 quarter, and they grew 14.6% like-for-like in 2025 with double-digit gains in China and India, and also in Indonesia and Colombia. The most optimistic published target, $18.66, assumes this works close to its best case.

The case against. Litigation is the risk that sets Reckitt apart from its peers. The most pessimistic target, $14.37, is roughly what RBGLY is worth if this bites instead.

How is Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc. (RBGLY) valued? (approximate, October 2026)

A simple financial snapshot. These are approximations and refresh quarterly; for current figures see Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc.'s investor relations page or your broker.

  • Net revenue (FY 2025, group): ~£14.2 billion
  • Adjusted operating profit (FY 2025): ~£3.54 billion, 24.9% margin
  • Net revenue (H1 2026): ~£6.41 billion
  • Adjusted diluted EPS (H1 2026): 152.1p, down 9.7%
  • Ordinary dividend (FY 2025): 212.2p per share
  • Market cap (RBGLY quote): ~$43 billion

Reported revenue is falling because Essential Home left the group on December 31, 2025, which is why first-half 2026 net revenue (~£6.41 billion) came in below the prior year's ~£6.98 billion even as like-for-like sales grew 2.6%. Yahoo Finance shows RBGLY at ~11.5x trailing earnings, a figure flattered by disposal gains, and ~14x forward earnings, which is a lower multiple than many large consumer-staples peers. The forward yield of ~4.2% rests on a dividend that the company raised 5% for 2025 and again at the 2026 interim. The discount reflects slower growth in developed markets and the open-ended NEC litigation.

Reckitt denies its products cause NEC.

First-half 2026 adjusted EPS also fell 9.7%, mainly because the Essential Home profits left the group.
