How it works

Where a move comes from

  1. It reads what you own

Holdings at every connected broker, and all your baskets.

  2. Six ideas, mixed

Three or more lean in. One or more spread you out.

  3. Checked against the index

Ideas that trailed the S&P 500 last year are dropped.

  4. Four on Home

Dismiss one and the next steps up.

The basket ideas

Four kinds of idea.

Ideas suggest what to add, never what to sell.

  • Concentration

Heavy in one theme? Spread across two other sectors.

41% in chips: add health care, utilities

  • Coverage

The missing layer of a chain you own.

    Designers held, equipment makers missing

  • Discovery

More of what you favor, somewhere new.

Builders held: power and cooling next

  • Winners

Your best performers in one basket.

    Your three strongest names, together

Housekeeping

Rechecked every time you open Home.

Each clears itself once fixed.

  • 5 ptsA basket's average gap from its targetsOr one name 10 points off.
  • 3 daysA basket built and never fundedIts chart is still a simulation.

Moves, answered plainly.

What are Moves in Walnut?

Short answer

Suggestions on your Home screen: new basket ideas built around what you own, and housekeeping like a basket off target.

Your baskets count most. Walnut never suggests one that mostly repeats a basket you have.

How does Walnut pick a move?

Short answer

Six ideas of 3 to 6 stocks. At least three lean into what you favor; at least one spreads you away from your biggest bet.

The spreading idea draws mainly on companies that beat the S&P 500 over the last quarter and year. Ideas that trailed the index over the past year are dropped.

A goal's time frame shapes the mix. Far goals lean to growth, near ones to stability.

Does Walnut make the trade for me?

Short answer

No. Approving a move in the app creates a draft basket. Investing is a separate step you confirm.

The tax-loss card only covers Walnut baskets, the one place Walnut knows your purchase price. Any sale is yours to make.

How often do moves change?

Short answer

Ideas rebuild each weekday around midday Eastern. Housekeeping rechecks whenever you open Home.

The strongest ideas also go in your notifications and the Daily Update email.

Quick answers

Do I need a broker connected?
No. Without one, ideas come from your baskets.
Can I get rid of a move?
Yes. Dismissed housekeeping moves stay away for 30 days.
Will it ever tell me to sell?
No. Ideas only suggest what to add.
Is a move a prediction?
No. Last year's prices say nothing certain about next year.
Can I talk a move through first?
Yes. Discuss opens it with the assistant.
Does it cost anything?
No. Walnut Unlimited, $9.99 a month on the web, only lifts the assistant's session limit.
