What tastytrade's own AI does

tastytrade ships two AI tools, both for tastytrade accounts only: an official MCP server and AI Search.

Published August 2026

Official MCP server

Runs on your own computer and lets Claude and other assistants read tastytrade accounts and place orders you confirm first.

Part of the MCP server

Sandbox and read-only modes

A sandbox holds no real money, and a read-only setting blocks every tool that places, changes or cancels orders.

AI Search

Search in plain words for symbols that fit an interest you describe, inside the tastytrade web platform.

Where Walnut fits

tastytrade's MCP server sees tastytrade, from a server you run yourself. Walnut reads it next to every other broker you connect, puts each holding against the S&P 500, places the buys you approve, and works on the web, on a phone, or in Claude or ChatGPT.

Everything else people ask about tastytrade, answered plainly.

Is tastytrade good for beginners?

Short answer

It suits beginners who want to learn options. Stock and ETF trades cost nothing, options cost $1 a contract to open and nothing to close, and tastytrade offers free courses. Someone who only wants to buy and hold index funds will find most of the platform built for someone else.

tastytrade sorts accounts by trading permission, from cash and Limited accounts up to the Basic and Works margin levels. Riskier strategies, such as selling uncovered options, sit at the higher levels, and every permission level is subject to tastytrade's suitability requirements and approval.

The platform shows a lot about each trade and less about the portfolio as a whole. Whether your stocks have kept up with the S&P 500, or one name has grown into a fifth of the account, is the part an AI that reads the account can add.

Is tastytrade safe?

Short answer

tastytrade, Inc. is a FINRA and SIPC member, so securities accounts are protected up to $500,000, including $250,000 for cash, if the firm fails. SIPC does not cover market losses, and futures and crypto accounts are not covered at all.

Connecting tastytrade to Walnut uses a secure connection where you sign in at tastytrade itself. Walnut never sees or stores your password, and you can disconnect from Walnut's Brokerage screen at any time.

Can tastytrade connect to ChatGPT or Claude?

Short answer

Yes, to Claude. tastytrade's official MCP server, published August 2026, works with clients including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Perplexity. You run it on your own computer, and every order needs a confirmation before it is sent.

Setting it up means cloning the server, building it with Node.js and creating OAuth credentials in your tastytrade settings. Walnut takes a different route: you sign in at tastytrade once, Walnut's read-only connector works in Claude and ChatGPT with no API key and no server to run, and buys are previewed and confirmed inside Walnut.

Quick answers

Does tastytrade charge commissions?
Nothing on stocks and ETFs. Stock and ETF options cost $1 a contract to open, capped at $10 a leg, and nothing to close.
Does tastytrade have an AI assistant?
It has an official MCP server, published August 2026, that connects Claude and other assistants to your account, and AI Search on its web platform.
Does Walnut read my tastytrade options?
Not yet. Walnut reads the stocks and ETFs in your tastytrade accounts. Options positions stay in tastytrade's own platform for now.
Can Walnut trade in my tastytrade account?
Yes, if your connection allows trading. Walnut previews each stock or ETF buy and sends only the ones you confirm to tastytrade.
Does Walnut see my tastytrade password?
No. You sign in at tastytrade, which gives Walnut access to your accounts and never your login.
Is connecting tastytrade to Walnut free?
Yes. Connecting is free, and so is the assistant up to a per-session allowance. Walnut Unlimited, $9.99 a month on the web, lifts that limit.
