AI features
What Upstox's own AI does
Upstox ships AI explanations in the app, a free read-only MCP server, and a skill for coding agents.
Intelligent Insights
Plain-language AI explanations of the option chain, open interest and charts, built from live market data. Upstox says the intent is not to give advice.
Upstox MCP
Lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code read your holdings, orders, positions and mutual funds. Re-authorize once a day.
Agent skill
A separate skill that uses the official Upstox SDK to place trades and stream data from inside a coding agent you set up.
Where Walnut fits
Upstox's tools see Upstox. Walnut reads it next to Zerodha, Interactive Brokers or any other broker you connect, puts every holding against the S&P 500, flags anything over a quarter, and lets you ask about all of it.

Everything else people ask about Upstox, answered plainly.
Short answer
It is built for them. Upstox says nearly 70% of its customers are first-time investors. Account opening is free, buying a mutual fund carries no charge, and equity delivery costs ₹20 per order, where Zerodha charges nothing on delivery.
Alongside stocks and derivatives, the app offers mutual funds, IPOs, goal-based investing and free model portfolios. Option Chain and Strategy Builder sit in the same app, so a beginner is a few taps from products built for active traders.
What a single broker app does not show is how the pieces add up. A read that names which holdings now carry the account, and how each has done over a year, is the check most first portfolios never get.

Upstox is a SEBI-registered stock broker and a member of NSE, BSE and MCX, and it is a CDSL depository participant, so the shares you buy are held in a demat account at CDSL. None of this protects against market losses.
Upstox Securities is a wholly owned subsidiary of RKSV Securities India and lists SEBI registration INZ000315837. Every account is fully KYC-registered, and the company crossed 2 crore customers in August 2026.
Connecting Upstox to Walnut uses a secure connection, and you sign in at Upstox. Walnut never sees or stores the password, never holds or moves money, and you can disconnect from Walnut's Brokerage screen at any time.

Short answer
Yes. Upstox runs its own MCP server that gives Claude, ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor and VS Code read-only access to holdings, orders, positions and mutual funds. It is free, needs an active account and asks you to re-authorize once a day.
Upstox's MCP cannot place orders. Trading from an AI goes through a separate agent skill for coding agents, which Upstox says to add deliberately. Walnut connects read only and adds what a single-broker connector cannot: Upstox next to your other brokers, and a flag on any one name over a quarter.
One thing to know: Walnut measures every holding against the S&P 500, its one benchmark. For an Upstox portfolio of Indian stocks, that comparison is against US large companies, not the Nifty 50.

Equity delivery and options cost ₹20 per executed order, and intraday costs ₹20 or 0.1%, whichever is lower. Account opening is free. Maintenance is ₹0 in year one for new customers, then ₹300 plus GST a year for non-BSDA accounts.
Selling shares from your demat account also carries a DP charge of ₹20 plus GST per scrip per day, split between CDSL and Upstox. Mutual fund purchases carry no charge, and Upstox lists an optional Plus plan with its own rates.
