AI features
DEGIRO ships no AI assistant of its own
As of October 2026, DEGIRO lists no AI assistant for investors and no official connector for ChatGPT or Claude. Its parent, flatexDEGIRO, says it is using AI in 2026 to scale customer service.
Where Walnut fits
DEGIRO shows each position and its return. Walnut reads DEGIRO next to Trading 212, Interactive Brokers or any other broker you connect, puts each holding against the S&P 500, and answers questions about all of it.

Short answer
For buying shares and ETFs at low cost, yes. DEGIRO charges €0 commission on its Core Selection ETFs and €1 on US stocks, each plus a €1 handling fee, with no custody or inactivity fee. It sells whole shares only, so small budgets often start with ETFs.
The fees to watch are the small ones. Each trade carries the €1 handling fee, each foreign exchange you trade on adds a connectivity fee of up to €2.50 a year, and buying a US stock from a euro account converts money at 0.25%. Fees also vary by country, so the Irish page is the one quoted here.
UK readers should know two things: DEGIRO's UK site says onboarding for new UK clients is temporarily unavailable, and its UK pages note that investors are not covered by the FSCS. flatexDEGIRO said in February 2026 that it is preparing ETF and stock savings plans for DEGIRO in Q4 2026.

DEGIRO is the Dutch branch of flatexDEGIRO Bank SE, supervised by Germany's BaFin and, in the Netherlands, by the AFM and DNB. Client assets sit in a separate legal entity, with the German investor compensation scheme as a backstop up to €20,000. Neither covers market losses.
Cash in a DEGIRO Cash Account with flatexDEGIRO Bank is covered up to €100,000 by the German deposit guarantee scheme. Connecting DEGIRO to Walnut uses a secure connection; Walnut never sees or stores your DEGIRO password, holds no money and moves none, and you can disconnect at any time.

Short answer
Not directly. As of October 2026 DEGIRO has no AI assistant and no official connector for ChatGPT or Claude. An app such as Walnut links DEGIRO through a secure connection, and its connector lets Claude and ChatGPT read those holdings.
Through Walnut, DEGIRO is read in full: every position, each one against the S&P 500, and a keep, trim or exit read per holding. Orders are not placed from Walnut at DEGIRO, so any trade the assistant describes is one you place in DEGIRO yourself.

Quick answers
- Does DEGIRO charge fees?
- Yes, small ones. A €1 handling fee per trade, €1 commission on US stocks, 0.25% on currency conversion, and up to €2.50 a year per foreign exchange.
- Does DEGIRO offer fractional shares?
- No. DEGIRO trades whole shares only, so a small budget buys fewer names. One ETF share holds many companies at once.
- Can I open a DEGIRO account in the UK?
- Not right now. DEGIRO's UK site says onboarding for new UK clients is temporarily unavailable, and UK investors are not covered by the FSCS.
- Can Walnut place trades at DEGIRO?
- No. Walnut reads DEGIRO in full and places nothing there. Buying through Walnut works at Public and Robinhood, and at eight other brokers including Trading 212, E*Trade and tastytrade.
- Does Walnut see my DEGIRO password?
- No. You sign in through a secure connection. Walnut never sees or stores the password and never holds or moves money.
- Is connecting DEGIRO to Walnut free?
- Yes. Connecting is free, and so is the assistant up to a per-session allowance. Walnut Unlimited, $9.99 a month on the web, lifts that limit.
